Two thirds of casualties are on Boundary Roads
In just over 5 years to March 2024, there were 307 casualties on the roads in and around the Dartmouth Park Healthy Neighbourhood area, so when thinking about a healthy neighbourhood, accidents and injuries of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicle occupants must be considered. Nearly two thirds of casualties were on the boundary roads, so it is essential that plans take into account safety improvements needed especially on boundary roads.
The table below shows a breakdown of casualties by year, severity (KSI = Killed or Seriously Injury), location and road user group. The data only includes recorded incidents which resulted in personal injury, therefore collisions which go unreported and / or only resulted in material damage are not included.
The above data was provided by our transport consultants and their report goes on to say
“With some junctions on the boundary roads, particularly the A1 Archway gyratory and the Tufnell Park Underground Station junction, experiencing high numbers of collisions throughout the period, this highlights clear highway safety issues in these locations which need to be addressed and may only be exacerbated by any increase in traffic flows”
We agree: road safety for all must be a focus as much as air quality.
